Our Coordination of Support Team (COST) works to support students who need more support in one or more in the areas of:
- Social-Emotional Learning
- Behavior
- Academics
- Attendance
Depending on the specific needs of the student, this team can include administrators, counselors, teachers, academic specialists, attendance staff, and health support staff.
The team works with teachers and support staff to:
- Provide support in planning interventions based on specific needs or skills
- Monitor each student’s progress in intervention cycles of usually 6-8 weeks and adjust support based on data
- Connect the student with appropriate and relevant resources available at school
The goals of the COST process are:
- To help students be successful in the general education classroom
- Provide extra support for students who need it through targeted interventions
- Use data to connect students with support and resources
How does the process begin? The best way to begin the process is with the classroom teacher. Teachers have a unique perspective on the students’ academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and attendance needs. Parents can reach out to teachers and work with them to support students, which may include a referral to the COST process. If you have any questions about the process, please contact our COST Coordinator.
